Dr. Sarah Sjovold grew up in the beautiful town of Hope, B.C.  She received a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Biology (B.Sc.) from the University of British Columbia in 1998.  Having grown up in a family that has always embraced alternative forms of healing, Dr. Sjovold decided to pursue her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario.  During her clinical training she had the opportunity to work with patients with HIV at the Sherbourne Health Clinic in Toronto, an experience that taught her how conventional and alternative medicine can truly compliment one another.  After graduation, Dr. Sjovold returned to her home town and set up a small practice.  In 2008, she relocated and joined the Family Health Clinic in Langley, B.C.  Dr. Sjovold strongly believes that Naturopathic Medicine should be an integral part of any healthcare plan.  Having experienced chronic illness herself she has gained a deeper understanding of the art of healing.  It is therefore her aim, as a doctor, to assist her patients in attaining better health and well being.

Conditions:

Dr. Sjovold has a keen interest in working in the fields of female and pediatric health care.  She has experience treating the following conditions:
  • anxiety, depression
  • chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia
  • hormone dysregulation (i.e. infertility, PCOS, PMS, menstrual irregularities, menopause)
  • pediatric (i.e. allergies, eczema, reflux)
  • allergies
  • gastrointestinal problems

Testing:

Dr. Sjovold has access to a wide range of diagnostic tests that include blood, hair, urine and saliva to VEGA (i.e. electrodermal testing) analyses.  Many of these test provide unique information about food and enviromental allergens, hormones, neurotransmitters, nutrient levels (i.e. amino acids, minerals, vitamins), metabolic & detoxification markers, heavy metals and other toxic substances.  As a Naturopathic Doctor of B.C., Dr. Sjovold can refer any patient to any B.C. Biomedical lab for testing.  This is often helpful when a patient is unable to obtain the necessary testing through an MD.

Therapies:

The therapies employed by Dr. Sjovold include: clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, physical medicine (i.e. ultrasound, diathermy), acupuncture, and intravenous vitamin and mineral therapy.  When necessary, Dr. Sjovold will refer patients to other practitioners that specialize in specific areas within the field of alternative medicine.  Some of the therapies include: active release therapy (ART), applied kinesiology (AK)), bowen, bodylogic/body rolling, cranial sacral therapy, intramuscular stimulation (IMS), massage, upper cervical technique.
